This tour lasts approximately 9 hours.
From impressive ruins to beautiful architecture to sophisticated shopping
to the glory of nature... a day in Taormina and Siracusa has it all!
Boasting lots of Greek history mixed with Roman, Taormina today is a world famous international resort and a town of seemingly endless charm.
Spend some time strolling the pretty streets with all their architectural eye-candy, sophisticated shops and intriguing galleries. You should not miss the remarkably preserved amphiteatre, one of the most celebrated ruins in Sicily, with its breathtaking views up and down the coast. There is also much unspoiled natural beauty to be enjoyed. Take the funicular down to the shore and stretch your legs along one of the many gorgeous beaches, and discover why such defining geographic features as Isola Bella are so named.
Like Taormina, Siracusa was inhabited in ancient times by the Greeks, who developed it into a major power in the Mediterranean. The Romans, Arabs and Normans left their mark here as well. Siracusa was once home to mathematician Archimedes and Cicero called it “the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all”. Today, the city is still beautiful (even though she’s 2,700 years old!) and, together with the Necropolis of Pantalica, is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Between all the castles, palaces, piazzas, fountains, churches and temples, as well as the necropolis with its 5,000 tombs dating from the 13th to the 7th centuries BC, there’s lots to take you on a visual journey through Siracusa’s fascinating past.
