Excursions from the port of Marseille

At the bottom of this page you’ll find an alphabetic listing of our most popular shore excursions from Marseille with images for easy reference. If you don’t see the tour you’re looking for please contact us! Customization is our specialty.

Marseille has been a port town since antiquity when it was founded as a Greek colony. Today Marseille is a crazy cocktail of the bygone and the modern, garnished with everything from splendid monuments to gritty ethnic neighbourhoods. It’s an optimum place to just get off the boat and have an easy day with tons to do, and it really deserves more credit than most guide books give it.

The MOST POPULAR destination from Marseille is Aix-en-Provence. Similar to Florence in its architecture and elegance, Aix is alive with many fountains, markets, shops, sunny terraces and real Provençal life. Our most popular day trip from Marseille is Aix-en-Provence & Cassis, which also gives you the opportunity to see the Calanques — the coastal inlets lined with sheer limestone cliffs. Cassis being a quaint fishing village, this excursion is a nice mix of contrasts.

We can also add a panoramic look at Marseille to this tour, as long as we have a full 8 hours to work with and you are fairly speedy tourists. If you like to take your time it’s best to stick with just Aix & Cassis.

If you fancy going WINE TASTING there are two good regions:

  • the Bandol (near Cassis; also convenient from Toulon)
  • Mt. Sainte-Victoire (near Aix-en-Provence, along the Route Cézanne, where the Cézanne painted many famous works.)

If you prefer VAN GOGH to Cézanne then think about Arles, Les Baux de Provence & St.-Rémy. Besides giving you a front row seat to the places where Van Gogh painted, Arles is also full of ancient history, monuments and great stories. Les Baux will give you a taste of the beauteous countryside, and St.-Rémy will charm you with its amazing food shops and genuine French vibe.

For MEDIEVAL places the most visited is Le Castellet, pretty as a postcard. We combine it with Cassis, perfect if you want to visit small places. We can’t forget Avignon, which is fascinating but quite a long way from port.

Full day services last 8 hours.
