Without traffic about 2.5 hours. St. Tropez is not available in July and August as traffic renders the service impossible.

Famous today as a sophisticated destination for the jet-setting crowd, St. Tropez was as a fishing village until the 20th century. In fact, one of the most charming areas of the town is the Vieux Port (old port), where cheery little boats and colourful row houses sit alongside sleek yachts and groovy cafés.

There are a variety of markets in St. Tropez: a daily fruit and vegetable market at Place aux Herbes, the fish market, and the Provençal market of local food products and handicrafts in Place de Lices (Tue and Sat only). The markets are only open in the mornings, so be sure to get your shopping done before hitting the beach!

If you prefer culture to surf and sand walk up to the citadel. This beautiful fortress from the early 17th Century houses a maritime museum in the former dungeon, and is the best spot in town for panoramic views. Strolling in the narrow streets of the old town is also very pleasant.

For museums: the Musée de l’Annonciade, featuring post-impressionist paintings in a converted chapel, and, for something a bit out of the ordinary, the Maison des Papillons (!), the house of butterflies.

On the way back to port we’ll take the panoramic road through the Maures hills and 5,000 acres of chestnut forests.
